Cape Town is currently experiencing its worst water crisis in living history. Both small and large business are having to take direct action and provide for their own domestic water requirements.
Table Mall was a new major commercial project undertaken by Aurocon of SA. As such; they had to provide water requirements for the reticulation around the facility; as well as provide water for the toilet facilities in the mall. AWS SA was awarded the task of designing; fabricating; installing and commissioning the water treatment plant to provide 200KL per day of potable water quality for the complex.
The bore water was high in iron and manganese; so the water treatment design utilised DMI media to remove the manganese and iron; with liquid chlorine used as the catalyst in the chemical process; which also provided the sterilisation requirements of the filtered water.
The project successfully produced 200KLD of potable water; chlorinated and removing iron levels of 2ppm in the raw water; 1.5ppm of manganese to levels of less than 0.2ppm of iron and 0.05 ppm of manganese. Complete infrastructure including contact FRP tank; Media Tanks; Backwash facility; pH correction dose and chlorine dose injection plus integrated electrical board to complete the facility.
